Projects

Besides the production of the zine, Yuck 'n Yum is active as an arts collective. These are some of the projects we've done.

AGK - Annual General Karaoke

...is the only karaoke video competition that we know of!

The premise is simple: every year we meet up to sing karaoke with our friends and followers... except we ask you make your own karaoke videos.

We ask that the video must have audio to sing along with and it must communicate lyrics to sing along to but we are open to inerpretation - you are free to push the idea of how a Karaoke video works to its limits!

The best karaoke video gets £300, and we have other prizes including one for best karaoke performance on the night.

The third AGK will be held in September - submissions are open now! Full details are on our dedicated AGK site.

In the meantime, see our new AGK Archive here.

Cabin:Codex - The Deadline is Nigh

We live-curated a zine from submissions at the opening of Cabin:Codex at the Visual Research Centre, DCA. You can see the fruits of our (and everyone at the opening's) labour here: Cabin:Codex issue

YYADA (Yuck 'n Yum Art Distribution Unit

At the Cupar Arts Festival 2009 YNY gave away free art. We commissioned artists, who are past contributors to the zine, to create limited-run special edition artworks ranging from pots of marmalade to prints.

The artists were: Luke Collins, Sanna Dyker, Derek Lodge, Anna Orton, Sam Spreckley, Andrew Maclean, Amy Todman, Kevin McPhee, Nadia Rossi, Ben Robinson, Ewan Manson and Gayle Meikle.

The works were distributed to the general public by the Yuck ‘n Yum Art Distribution Agents (YYADA for short). The distribution team was comprised of volunteers, who shuttled between the festival venues, each easily identifiable by their Yuck ‘n Yum branded skip hat, knapsack and sunny disposition. The agents handed out the free art whilst informing the public of the ‘artist of the day’ and the festival.

We blogged about the project here: Cupar09.yucknyum.com

Getting Up - Turn Your Bluetooth On

We were comissioned by Old Town Arts in Inverness to create an artwork in a public space as part of a larger exhibition called Getting Up. YNY invited 8 artists to create a video or sound work to be transmitted via bluetooth in the Old Town Rose Street Carpark in Inverness. The work was also displayed in Yum! cafe adjacent to the carpark alongside back issues of our zine.

KYTN Mixtape

ARIKA invited YNY to make an audio work for the Kill Your Timid Notion Festival 2010. We decided to make a mixtape of past contributors to the zine. You can download the tape plus the album artwork from here: MIXTAPE
